BASF Battles Market Turmoil as Profits Slide
BASF reported weaker results for 2025 as challenging global market conditions weighed on performance.
Sales declined to €59.7 billion, down from €61.4 billion the previous year, mainly due to lower prices and unfavorable currency effects.
EBITDA before special items fell by €686 million to €6.6 billion, reflecting lower contribution margins in the Chemicals, Industrial Solutions, Materials, and Nutrition & Care segments. However, Surface Technologies and Agricultural Solutions showed improved earnings.
EBIT decreased to €1.6 billion. Despite this, net income rose to €1.6 billion, supported by special income and improved contributions from equity investments.
Cash flow from operating activities declined, but free cash flow increased significantly, primarily due to reduced capital expenditures.
BASF continues implementing cost-saving and restructuring measures. The company proposed a dividend of €2.25 per share.
For 2026, BASF expects EBITDA before special items to range between €6.2 billion and €7.0 billion, signaling a cautious outlook amid ongoing economic uncertainty.
