Baltic dry bulk index fell to a six-month low
Due to the decline in shipping demand, the Baltic Exchange's freight index continued to decline on December 23, falling for 14 consecutive days to the lowest level in more than six months. On the same day, the Baltic dry bulk index fell 1.8% (20 points) to 1103, its lowest level since June 17 this year. The Capesize Index fell 4 points to 1954, its lowest level in more than six months. Daily rent decreased by $85 to $14366. This type of ship usually carries 170000-180000 tons of iron ore, coal and other goods. Panamax fell 3.9% (47 points) to 1154, its lowest level since November 27. Daily rents fell $384 to $9228. This type of ship usually carries 60000-70000 tons of coal and grain. The super handy index fell 15 points to 728.
