Indian Oil Corporation's bioethanol plant starts operation
Recently, Indian Oil Corporation held a ceremony to celebrate the commissioning of its second-generation bioethanol plant in Panipat, Haryana, northern India. It is reported that Indian Oil Corporation has invested a total of 9 billion rupees in the bioethanol plant project.
India's second-generation bioethanol is made from the residues of agricultural products such as wheat, rice, sugarcane, corn, and cotton. The Panipat plant, which was put into operation this time, uses straw as raw material and can produce about 30 million liters of ethanol per year from 200,000 tons of straw.
In addition, India's state-owned Bharat Petroleum revealed that it will build a first- and second-generation integrated bioethanol plant in Bagar in the eastern Indian state of Odisha. It is expected that by 2023, the plant construction and equipment installation will be completed.
According to reports, in May this year, India achieved the goal of increasing the ethanol-gasoline blending ratio to 10%. Its ultimate goal is to increase its blending rate to 20% by fiscal year 2025-26 (the ethanol supply year is December 2025-November 2026). India will produce 10 billion to 12 billion liters of ethanol by 2025, and start selling gasoline (E20) blended with 20% ethanol by April 2023, according to Deputy Oil and Gas Minister Jain Jain.
