Exports of Pakistani Textile and Cotton Sector up 12.44 Percent Y-O-Y
Exports of textile and cotton sector grew by 12.44 percent on year-on-year basis reaching $1.078 billion in September 2017 from $958.774 million for the same month a year ago, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Official data of exports of select commodities released by PBS on Saturday noted an increase of 188.25 percent in exports of raw cotton, which climbed to $20.927 million in September 2017 from $7.260 million in the same month of last fiscal year. However, there was a decrease of 8.04 percent in exports of textile and cotton in September 2017 over previous month of August 2017.
Exports of cotton yarn were $110.529 million during September 2017, higher by 25.86 percent against $87.818 million for the same month of last fiscal year while exports of cotton cloth grew by 6.48 percent and reached $179.433 million in September 2017 from $168.508 million for September 2016. Exports of knitwear increased to $208.392 million in September 2017 from $183.783 million over the same period of last fiscal year, reflecting a growth of 13.39 percent while exports of bed-wear reached $182.642 million from $173.358 million, showing an increase of 5.36 percent.
The PBS said that export of towels increased to $63.435 million in the month of September 2017 from $61.023 million for the same month of the last fiscal year, up by 3.95 percent, while exports of readymade garments surged to $189.440 million from $162.376 million with an increase of 16.67 percent.
Exports of art, silk & synthetic textile were $24.516 million in September 2017, up by 19.24 percent, from $20.561 million for the same month a year before; exports of made-up articles, (excl. towels & bed-wear) were recorded at $54.405 million from $48.488 million, reflecting an increase of 12.20 percent; while exports of other textile materials grew by 8.20 percent to $36.242 million in September 2017 over $ 33.494 million during the same of last fiscal year.
However, there was a decline of 45.93 percent exports of tents, canvas and tarpaulin. Exports of tents, canvas and tarpaulin decreased to $5.403 million September 2017 from $9.992 million during September 2016.
On the other hand, exports of textile and cotton increased 7.01 percent to $3.257 billion during July-September 2017 (first quarter of the current fiscal year) from $3.018 billion during July-September 2016 (same period of last fiscal year).
Export of raw cotton increased to $29.624 million during the period under review from $17.457 million, cotton yarn to $320.942 million from $306.958 million, yarn other than cotton yarn to $7.605 million during July-September 2017 from $7.063 million during July-September 2016, and exports of knitwear climbed to $647.560 million from $592.277 million.
Exports of bed-wear increased to $566.963 million during July-September 2017 from $528.912 during July-September of last fiscal year, towels to $180.217 million from $178.596 million, and exports of readymade garments surged to $608.071 million from $524.347 million.
Exports of tents, canvas and tarpaulin decreased to $16.128 million during July-September 2017 from $23.731 million for the same period of last fiscal year and exports of cotton cloth to $ 528.735 million from $ 547.586.
