American pea protein maker Puris launches plant-based egg products
U.S. pea protein manufacturer Puris announced it has developed a plant-based egg product that uses yellow pea as its primary source of protein. According to the introduction, the plant egg product uses Puris' plant egg powder and has similar nutrition to conventional eggs, with 5 grams of protein per serving, cholesterol-free and gluten-free, non-GMO foods.
Puris said plant-based egg products look, cook, taste and have the same nutritional value as animal-based eggs, but do not contain allergenic ingredients and extra protein.
In recent years, as consumers have become more aware of health, the environment, animal care and ethics, numerous consumers have begun to prefer foods made from novel alternative proteins such as plant proteins in addition to protein intake from animal foods such as meat, milk and eggs.
Market data shows that the plant protein market has grown at a CAGR of 14.0% since the beginning of 2019 and is expected to reach US $40.6 billion by 2025. According to Mintel market data, 75 percent of protein demand is expected to be plant-based in 2027, and demand for alternative proteins continues to rise in the global market.
It is worth noting that a large number of companies have started to layout this market. In late August, Shiru, an American functional ingredients company, teamed up with Puratos Group, a Belgian company, to develop a next-generation egg substitute. Umami United, a Japanese food technology company, combines konjac with distinctive enzyme technology to create modern plant-based eggs.
