Devon Garden develops pea protein milk and launches this summer
Plant food startup Devon Garden is expected to list its first yellow pea plant-based dairy alternative in the UK this summer.
It is reported that this plant-based dairy product is a nutritious alternative to beverages with a rich and delicate taste and a milky texture. It is made from the popular plant-based ingredient pea yellow.
Cesar Torres, founder and CEO of Devon Garden, said that pea yellow is often used as a soy substitute, supported by Beyond Burger products from Beyond Meat, a plant-based burger manufacturer, and is "the hottest ingredient" .
Pea yellow may be one of the most popular alternative proteins on the market, but taste issues will affect its development. The pea protein isolate has a bitter aftertaste, so manufacturers need to add additives to cover up the odor, or develop techniques to eliminate the astringency in the isolate.
Devon Garden achieves the ideal taste by improving the formula. The Devon Garden plant-based beverage ingredients mainly include water, pea protein, locust bean gum and supplementary ingredients stevioside, chicory root extract and sunflower oil. By adding plant-based ingredients stevia and chicory root extract, this product can ensure the right taste and aroma without adding any artificial flavors.
