Former Merck executive joins local Biotech

Yue Huang, former head of Translational Medicine in China at Merck, joined Skygene.

Yesterday, Sihe Gene official wechat released news, announced that the former head of Merck translational medicine in China Huang Yue officially joined Sihe gene, as chief Translational Science Officer (CTO), fully responsible for the independent innovation of antisense oligonucleotide drug research and development project of Sihe gene preclinical and clinical research work.

Yue Huang holds a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Beijing Medical University and a doctorate degree in pharmacokinetics from the University of Minnesota. He has 22 years of experience in R&D management of innovative drug business. From 2020 to 2021, he served as the Executive Director of Simcsion Pharmaceutical and the head of the planning and construction of the Beijing Translational Science Platform, where he managed the clinical phase III implementation and progress of innovative drug pipeline. Prior to this, Huang also worked at Merck Serono for about 5 years, serving as global Head of Translational Medicine/Global Early Development lead, responsible for the decision-making promotion of the global pipeline China project and external BD cooperation decision support.

Sinogene, a biotech company founded last year and focused on antisense oligonucleotide technology, has a pipeline of metabolic, oncology, central nervous system diseases, among other areas where Huang specializes.

In recent years, more and more multinational pharmaceutical executives and overseas talents have focused on China's local Biotech.

In August, the company announced Eleanor (Ellee) de Groot as Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, and Aleksandar Skuban as head of Central nervous System disease Therapeutics. Both executives have years of overseas experience.

Caroline Germa, the company's newly appointed executive vice president of global drug development and chief medical officer on August 8, also has an overseas background.

Luo became CEO and executive director of Genting Xinyao last month after serving as global vice president and general manager of Gilead Sciences in China.
