Femoral nerve pain
Femoral nerve pain is not uncommon in clinical practice, especially in middle-aged women. Except for the sciatic nerve trunk, the femoral nerve of the lower limb is the largest branch, originating from the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lumbar nerves, descending along the psoas major and iliopsoas muscles, entering the femoral triangle (located on the outside of the femoral artery) from below the inguinal ligament, and then dividing into sensory and motor branches (Figure 1). 1. Sensory branch There are two branches: (1) Anterior femoral cutaneous nerve: distributed in the anterior medial skin of the lower 2/3 of the thigh. (2) Saphenous nerve: distributed in the skin of the knee, calf, and inner foot. 2. Motor branch Mainly innervates the iliopsoas muscle (already emitted in the pelvic cavity), sartorius muscle, pectineus muscle, and quadriceps femoris.
