Mycobacterium szulgai was confirmed as a human pathogen by Marks in 1972. It is a dark-colored mycobacterium. It produces light gas when cultured at 25°C, dark color when cultured at 37°C, and does not grow at 42°C. The colonies are orange and grow slowly. The pathogenesis is not very clear. The clinical manifestations are varied. Skin lesions are disseminated painless inflammatory nodules. Positive mycobacterial culture of skin lesion tissue can be diagnosed.
