Chorea of pregnancy
Chorea gravidarum is a rare complication of pregnancy. It is currently considered to be a late-onset chorea triggered by pregnancy. The clinical manifestations are movement disorders with chorea-like involuntary movements, decreased muscle tone, and weakened muscle strength. The cause of chorea gravidarum is unclear. Pregnancy is only a trigger. Pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome can cause this disease. Patients have no history of infection or heart disease. Chorea-like movements stop immediately after termination of pregnancy. A few authors believe that chorea gravidarum can be induced by mental factors, systemic toxemia, or infection (such as mild encephalitis).
