Bartter syndrome in children
Bartter syndrome is a clinical syndrome that is considered to be caused by ion channel gene mutations. Early manifestations include polyuria, thirst, constipation, anorexia and vomiting, with hypokalemic alkalosis, increased blood renin and aldosterone, but normal blood pressure, and proliferation and hypertrophy of the juxtaglomerular apparatus. It is more common in children under 5 years old; Bartter first reported two cases in 1962, and similar reports have been made since then. This disease is rare, with hundreds of cases reported so far, and dozens of cases reported in China.
