Pulmonary hookworm disease
After hookworm filariform larvae invade the human body through the skin or mucous membranes, they reach the lungs through the lymphatic or blood vessels, and penetrate the pulmonary capillaries into the alveoli, causing punctate hemorrhage and inflammatory cell infiltration. The pathological changes in the lungs are similar to those of pulmonary ascariasis. Severe infection can cause pulmonary lobular consolidation and bronchitis.
