Under physiological conditions, the cecum is covered with peritoneum on all sides, but 5% of people may have no peritoneum covering the back of the upper cecum and have underdeveloped mesentery, so it has a certain degree of mobility, but its range of activity should not exceed 6 cm. However, if the right colon mesentery fails to fuse with the lateral peritoneum during the embryonic period, the mobility of the cecum and ascending colon may be greatly enhanced. Even if it is still in the normal right lower anatomical position, it may twist and shift due to abnormal activity, and sometimes even exceed the midline to the left side, leading to a series of symptoms of partial intestinal obstruction, which is called hyperkinetic cecum syndrome.
