This disease is also called tibial tubercle epiphysisitis or osteochondritis, aseptic necrosis, traction epiphysisitis, and is a juvenile disease in which the tibial tuberosity of the child becomes enlarged and painful. In 1903, Osgood first reported some cases of partial tibial tuberosity avulsion. Soon after, Schlatter proposed that this disease is epiphysisitis of the tongue-shaped drooping part of the epiphysis at the upper end of the tibia, so this disease is also called Osgood-Schlatter disease.
