Foreign bodies in the eye
Intraocular foreign bodies are a special type of eye injury, which is more harmful than general perforating injuries near the eyeball. When foreign bodies enter the eyeball, in addition to the mechanical damage caused by the injury, the retention of foreign bodies increases the harm to the eyeball. Generally speaking, foreign bodies in the eye need to be diagnosed early and operated on in time to protect the eyeball and preserve vision. Types of foreign bodies in the eye: Intraocular foreign bodies are divided into two categories: magnetic and non-magnetic. Magnetic ones can be sucked out with magnets during surgery; non-magnetic foreign bodies include other metals, alloys and non-metals. Most non-magnetic foreign bodies are difficult to remove. The location of foreign bodies in the eyeball is about 20% in the anterior segment of the eyeball and about 80% in the posterior segment of the eyeball, of which 10% are located in the wall of the eyeball. The left eye is more common than the right eye, and about 1% of people have foreign bodies in both eyes at the same time.
