Median nerve injury
The median nerve is relatively superficial in the wrist and is easily injured by sharp objects. Supracondylar fractures of the humerus and lunate dislocations are often accompanied by median nerve injuries, mostly contusions or compression injuries. Those secondary to shoulder dislocations are traction injuries. In addition, the median nerve can develop chronic nerve compression symptoms due to wrist bone hyperplasia, hypertrophy of the transverse carpal ligament, or hypertrophy of the pronator teres muscle.
