Cat scratch disease
Cat scratch disease is caused by infection with Bartonella henselae. The pathogen is mainly transmitted to humans through contact with, scratching or biting of the skin by cats and other domestic animals. The typical clinical features are primary skin lesions and lymphadenopathy, which are generally benign and self-limiting. However, a small number of patients may develop severe systemic damage, such as granulomatous hepatitis, hepatosplenomegaly, neuritis and meningoencephalitis. The entire course of the disease is 1 to 4 months.
