Periodic normokalemic paralysis in children
Periodic paralysis is a group of metabolic diseases related to potassium ion metabolism. It is characterized by repeated, self-limited attacks of flaccid skeletal muscle paralysis or weakness that last for hours to weeks, with normal inter-attack periods. According to the changes in blood potassium during attacks, it can be divided into three types: hypokalemic, hyperkalemic, and normokalemic. Normokalemic periodic paralysis is an autosomal dominant trait. Blood potassium is normal during attacks.
