Elbow valgus
When the normal elbow joint is fully extended, there is a slight valgus of about 10° for men and about 15° for women. This valgus angle is called the carrying angle. If this angle increases, that is, the forearm is too abducted, it is called elbow valgus deformity. The most common cause of elbow valgus is unreduced or poorly reduced supracondylar fractures and distal humeral fractures in children. Failure to timely reduce or poorly reduce the medial and lateral condylar fractures of the humerus in children, premature closure or ischemic necrosis of the lateral condylar epiphysis of the humerus, and unreduced or poorly reduced elbow dislocations can all cause elbow valgus.
