Orbital lesions in sphenoid meningiomas
Meningioma is a common intracranial tumor, second only to glioma, accounting for about 1/4 of all tumors. Meningioma mainly occurs in the endothelial cells of the arachnoid membrane, so it can occur anywhere in the skull except the brain parenchyma. The incidence is high near the falx cerebri, near the sagittal sinus and on the convex surface of the brain, followed by the sphenoid ridge, tuberculum sellae, parasellar, bromine groove, tentorium cerebelli and cerebellopontine angle. Among them, the sphenoid ridge, tuberculum sellae and parasellar meningiomas can invade the orbit, optic nerve and cranial nerves and cause a series of orbital lesions. The sphenoid region is one of the common sites of tumors, and due to anatomical reasons, it is also the most common intracranial tumor that invades the orbit.
