Phloroglucinol can directly act on the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract and urogenital tract. It is a myotropic, non-atropine, non-opioid pure smooth muscle antispasmodic drug. Compared with other smooth muscle antispasmodics, it has the characteristics of not having anticholinergic effects. While relieving smooth muscle spasms, it will not produce a series of anticholinergic side effects, will not cause symptoms such as hypotension, increased heart rate, arrhythmia, and has no effect on cardiovascular function. Animal pharmacology tests show that it only acts on spasmodic smooth muscles and has little effect on normal smooth muscles.

Tropisetron hydrochloride is a potent and highly selective competitive antagonist of 5-hydroxytryptamine 3 (5-HT3) receptors in peripheral neurons and the central nervous system. It inhibits the vomiting reflex by selectively blocking the presynaptic 5-HT3 receptors of peripheral neurons. Its antiemetic effect may also be related to its direct blockade of central 5-HT3 receptors to inhibit the stimulation of the vagus nerve in the area postrema.
