Drug Information
Substances used for the detection, identification, analysis, etc. of chemical, biological, or pathologic processes or conditions. Indicators are substances that change in physical appearance, e.g., color, at or approaching the endpoint of a chemical titration, e.g., on the passage between acidity and alkalinity. Reagents are substances used for the detection or determination of another substance by chemical or microscopical means, especially analysis. Types of reagents are precipitants, solvents, oxidizers, reducers, fluxes, and colorimetric reagents. (From Grant and Hackh's Chemical Dictionary, 5th ed, p301, p499) (See all compounds classified as Indicators and Reagents.)
Phloroglucinol is a known human metabolite of 2-(4-Hydroxyphenyl)-1-(2,4,6-trihydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one and Epicatechin.

Drug Function and Efficacy
1. It acts directly on the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract and urogenital tract. It is a myotropic, non-atropine, non-opioid pure smooth muscle spasmolytic drug. 2. It does not have anticholinergic effects. While relieving smooth muscle spasms, it will not produce a series of anticholinergic effects. 3. It will not cause symptoms such as hypotension, increased heart rate, arrhythmia, and has no effect on cardiovascular function. 4. It only acts on spasmodic smooth muscles and has little effect on normal smooth muscles. 5. Subacute toxicity and long-term toxicity tests show that it has no adverse effects on animal growth, macroscopic and microscopic histology of important organs, blood and biochemical indicators. 6. Special toxicity test studies have shown that phloroglucinol is not teratogenic or mutagenic (carcinogenic).
