Cephalothin sodium

First-generation cephalosporins have a broad antibacterial spectrum and are highly active against gram-positive bacteria. They are sensitive to penicillinase-producing and non-penicillinase-producing Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative Staphylococci, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, group B hemolytic Streptococcus, viridans streptococci, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, and Bacillus anthracis. Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria meningitidis, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae are highly sensitive. Some strains of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Shigella, and Proteus are moderately sensitive, and most of the remaining gram-negative rods are resistant. Gram-positive anaerobic bacteria are sensitive, and Bacteroides fragilis is resistant. It mainly inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls.

It has strong antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and also has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against bacteria including Gram-negative bacteria. At the same time, it has strong antibacterial activity against glucose non-fermenting Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The drug has a bactericidal effect and is stable to β-lactamase produced by various bacteria. When used for experimental infection (mice), it shows excellent therapeutic effects. It is sensitive to bacteria resistant to penicillin, other cephalosporins or aminoglycoside antibiotics, especially Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It has a strong affinity with 1A, 1B and 3 of penicillin binding protein (PBP), inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell wall, thereby exerting a bactericidal effect.
