Ethambutol Hydrochloride Tablets
Function and Efficacy
This product is a synthetic antibacterial anti-tuberculosis drug. Its mechanism of action has not yet been fully elucidated. This product can penetrate into the mycobacteria to interfere with the synthesis of RNA, thereby inhibiting the reproduction of bacteria. This product is only effective against mycobacteria in the growth and reproduction period. So far, no cross-resistance has been found between this product and other anti-tuberculosis drugs.

This product is white tablets.
Indication
It is suitable for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs. It can also be used to treat tuberculous meningitis and atypical mycobacterial infections.
Usage and Dosage
1. Common dosage for adults: used in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs. For initial treatment of tuberculosis, take 15 mg/kg of body weight once a day; or take 25-30 mg/kg orally each time, up to 2.5 g, 3 times a week; or 50 mg/kg, up to 2.5 g, twice a week. For retreatment of tuberculosis, take 25 mg/kg of body weight once a day for 60 consecutive days, followed by 15 mg/kg of body weight once a day. For atypical mycobacterial infection, take 15-25 mg/kg of body weight once a day. 2. Common dosage for children: This product should not be used for children under 13 years old; the dosage for children over 13 years old is the same as that for adults.
Adverse Reactions
(1) The more common symptoms are blurred vision, eye pain, red-green color blindness or decreased vision, and narrowed visual field (optic neuritis is more likely to occur when the daily dose is 25 mg/kg or more). Visual changes can be unilateral or bilateral. (2) The less common symptoms are chills, joint swelling and pain (especially the big toe, condyle, and knee joints), and a feeling of heat and tightness on the surface of the affected joints (acute gout, hyperuricemia). (3) The rarest symptoms are allergic reactions such as rash, fever, and joint pain; or numbness, tingling, burning pain, or weakness in the hands and feet (peripheral neuritis).

Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: There is a lack of clinical data for children under 13 years old. Since it is difficult to monitor changes in vision in young children, this product is not recommended for children under 13 years old. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: 1. Ethambutol can pass through the placenta, and the fetal blood concentration is about 30% of the maternal blood concentration. In mouse experiments, high doses of this product can cause cleft palate, brain exposure and spinal deformity; high doses of this product in rats can cause mild cervical deformity; high doses of this product in rabbits can cause cycloopia, short limbs, cleft lip and cleft palate and other deformities. Although it has not been confirmed in humans, pregnant women still need to fully weigh the pros and cons. The effect of this product on the fetus when used in combination with other drugs is unclear. 2. Ethambutol is distributed in breast milk, and the concentration is similar to the blood concentration. Although it has not been confirmed to be a problem in humans, the pros and cons of using this drug in lactating women must be weighed. Precautions for the elderly: The elderly are often accompanied by physiological renal dysfunction, so the dosage should be adjusted according to renal function.
Drug Interactions
1. Combination with ethionamide may increase adverse reactions; 2. Combination with aluminum hydroxide may reduce the absorption of this product; 3. Combination with neurotoxic drugs may increase the neurotoxicity of this product, such as optic neuritis or peripheral neuritis.
