Function and Efficacy

This product is a phenothiazine antipsychotic. Its antipsychotic effect is related to its blocking of dopamine receptors in the brain, inhibiting dopamine receptors in the emetic chemoreceptor area of the medulla oblongata and directly inhibiting the vomiting center, producing a strong antiemetic effect, but weak sedative and anticholinergic effects.

Indication

It is used for various types of schizophrenia, has an invigorating and activating effect, and is suitable for the catatonic stupor symptoms and the emotional indifference and behavioral withdrawal symptoms of simple and chronic schizophrenia.

Usage and Dosage

Oral administration starts with a low dose, 5 mg once, 2 to 3 times a day. Gradually increase to 5 to 10 mg once every 3 to 4 days, 2 to 3 times a day. The daily dose is 15 to 30 mg, and the highest dose is 45 mg a day.

Adverse Reactions

Extrapyramidal reactions are common, such as akathisia, acute dystonia and Parkinson's disease. Long-term and excessive use may cause tardive dyskinesia. Palpitations, insomnia, fatigue, dry mouth, blurred vision, dysuria, constipation, galactorrhea, gynecomastia, menstrual disorders, amenorrhea, etc. may occur. Rarely, drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, and urinary retention are seen. Allergic rash, leukopenia and malignant syndrome are occasionally seen. Occasionally, it may cause postural hypotension, palpitations or electrocardiogram changes, elevated liver enzyme levels or obstructive jaundice, and epilepsy.

Precautions

Patients with basal ganglia lesions, Parkinson's disease, Parkinson's syndrome, bone marrow suppression, glaucoma, coma and allergy to phenothiazines.

Special Population Medication

Precautions for children: Children under 6 years old are prohibited from using this product. Children over 6 years old are prone to extrapyramidal symptoms, so the dosage should be reduced as appropriate. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: Pregnant women should use this product with caution. Lactating women should stop breastfeeding while using this product. Precautions for the elderly: Elderly patients should start with a small dose and reduce the dosage as appropriate depending on the condition to reduce the occurrence of extrapyramidal reactions and tardive dyskinesia.

Drug Interactions

1. When used in combination with ethanol or other central nervous system depressants, it can enhance the central inhibitory effect. 2. When used in combination with antihypertensive drugs, it can easily cause postural hypotension. 3. When used in combination with sultopride, this product increases the risk of ventricular arrhythmia, and in severe cases, it can cause torsades de pointes arrhythmia. 4. When used in combination with other atropine drugs, adverse reactions are additive.
