Tetracycline Capsules

Function and Efficacy

This product is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent with bactericidal effect at high concentrations. In addition to common Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and anaerobic bacteria, most Rickettsia, Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, atypical mycobacteria and spirochetes are also sensitive to this product. This product is better than Gram-positive bacteria for Gram-negative bacteria, but Enterococcus is resistant to it. Others such as Actinomycetes, Bacillus anthracis, Listeria monocytogenes, Clostridium, Nocardia, etc. are sensitive to this product. This product has certain antibacterial activity against Neisseria gonorrhoeae, but penicillin-resistant gonococci are also resistant to tetracycline. This product has good antibacterial effect on Gram-negative bacteria such as Vibrio, Yersinia pestis, Brucella, Campylobacter, Yersinia, etc., has no antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and has certain antibacterial effect on some anaerobic bacteria, but it is far inferior to metronidazole, clindamycin and chloramphenicol, so it is not used clinically. Due to the widespread use of tetracyclines over the years, most common clinical pathogens, including Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus and Gram-negative bacteria such as Enterobacter, are resistant to tetracyclines, and there is cross-resistance between similar products. The mechanism of action of this product is that the drug can specifically bind to the A position of the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, preventing the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA at this position, thereby inhibiting the growth of peptide linkages and affecting the synthesis of bacterial proteins.

Appearance

This product is in the form of capsules.

Indication

Chlamydia infection, rickettsial disease, mycoplasma pneumonia, relapsing fever and other non-bacterial infections, brucellosis, cholera, tularemia, rat bite fever, anthrax, tetanus, plague, actinomycosis, gas gangrene and respiratory system, bile duct, urinary tract infections caused by sensitive bacteria

Usage and Dosage

Oral administration: Adult dosage: 0.25-0.5g (1-2 tablets) once, once every 6 hours. Children over 8 years old: 0.025-0.05g/kg each time, once every 6 hours.

Adverse Reactions

1. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, upper abdominal discomfort, bloating, diarrhea, etc., may occasionally cause reports of pancreatitis, esophagitis and esophageal ulcers, which mostly occur in patients who are bedridden immediately after taking the drug. 2. This product can cause hepatotoxicity, usually fatty liver degeneration. Pregnant women and patients with pre-existing renal impairment are prone to hepatotoxicity, but hepatotoxicity can also occur in patients without the above conditions. Tetracycline-induced pancreatitis can also occur simultaneously with hepatotoxicity, and the patients do not have primary liver disease. 3. Allergic reactions: mostly maculopapular rash and erythema, a small number of patients may experience urticaria, angioedema, allergic purpura, pericarditis, and worsening of the rash of systemic lupus erythematosus, and exfoliative dermatitis is not common. Occasionally, anaphylactic shock and asthma occur. Some patients using tetracycline will experience photosensitivity when exposed to the sun.

Precautions

It is contraindicated for patients who are allergic to tetracyclines.

Special Population Medication

Precautions for children: When using this product during tooth development (mid- and late-stage pregnancy, infants and children under 8 years old), tetracycline can form stable calcium compounds in any bone tissue, leading to yellowing of permanent teeth, enamel hypoplasia and bone growth inhibition, so this product should not be used in children under 8 years old. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: This product can enter the fetus through the placental barrier and deposit in the calcium area of teeth and bones, causing fetal tooth discoloration, poor enamel regeneration and inhibition of fetal bone growth. This type of drug has teratogenic effects in animal experiments, so it should not be used by pregnant women. Pregnant women are particularly sensitive to the hepatotoxic reaction of tetracycline and should avoid using this type of drug. This product can be secreted from breast milk, and the concentration in breast milk is high. It has the potential to cause serious adverse reactions to infants. When using it, breastfeeding women should suspend breastfeeding. Precautions for the elderly: Elderly patients are often accompanied by renal impairment, so the dosage needs to be adjusted. The use of this product is prone to cause hepatotoxicity, so elderly patients should use it with caution.

Drug Interactions

1. When used together with antacids such as sodium bicarbonate, the absorption of this product may be reduced and its activity may be reduced due to the increase in the pH value in the stomach. Therefore, antacids should not be taken within 1 to 3 hours after taking this product. 2. Drugs containing metal ions such as calcium, magnesium, and iron may form insoluble complexes with this product, reducing the absorption of this product. 3. When used in combination with the general anesthetic methoxyflurane, its nephrotoxicity may be enhanced. 4. When used in combination with strong diuretics such as furosemide and other drugs, renal damage may be aggravated. 5. When used in combination with other hepatotoxic drugs (such as anti-tumor chemotherapy drugs), liver damage may be aggravated. 6. The lipid-lowering drugs cholestyramine or colestipol may affect the absorption of this product and must be taken several hours apart. 7. This product may reduce the effectiveness of contraceptives and increase the possibility of extramenstrual bleeding. 8. This product may inhibit the activity of plasma prothrombin, so
