Vitamin B12 tablets

Function and Efficacy

Vitamin B12 is converted into methylcobalamin and coenzyme B12 in the body to become active. Methylcobalamin participates in folic acid metabolism. When it is deficient, it hinders the recycling of tetrahydrofolate, thereby hindering the synthesis of thymidine deoxynucleotides, blocking DNA synthesis, and stagnating the maturation and division of blood cells, leading to megaloblastic anemia. Coenzyme B12 promotes the conversion of methylmalonyl coenzyme A, an intermediate product of fat metabolism, into succinyl coenzyme A to participate in the tricarboxylic acid cycle. When it is deficient in the human body, it causes increased excretion of methylmalonic acid and abnormal fatty acid metabolism. At the same time, it affects the synthesis of myelin lipids and the maintenance of the normal function of sheathed nerve fibers, resulting in clinical symptoms of nerve damage.

When vitamin C is administered at the same time or taken in large quantities for a long time, the blood concentration of vitamin B12 may decrease. 3. Aminoglycoside antibiotics, para-aminosalicylic acid, phenobarbital, phenytoin sodium, primidone and other anticonvulsants and colchicine can reduce the absorption of vitamin B12 from the intestine. 4. Cholestyramine can bind to vitamin B12 and reduce its absorption.
