Gentomycin Sulfate and Bismuth Carbonate Capsules

Function and Efficacy

Gentamycin sulfate is an aminoglycoside drug. It has good antibacterial effects on various Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. It has good effects on various Enterobacteriaceae such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Salmonella, Shigella, Enterobacter, Serratia and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Neisseria and Haemophilus influenzae are moderately sensitive to this product. It also has certain effects on Brucella, Yersinia pestis, Acinetobacter and Campylobacter fetus. It has good antibacterial effects on about 80% of methicillin-sensitive strains of Staphylococcus (including Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative Staphylococci), but methicillin-resistant strains are mostly resistant to this product. It has poor effects on Streptococcus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Enterococcus is mostly resistant to this product. When this product is used in combination with β-lactams, most of them can obtain synergistic antibacterial effects. Its mechanism of action is to bind to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome and inhibit the synthesis of bacterial proteins. In recent years, the number of gram-negative bacteria resistant to gentamicin has increased significantly. Bismuth subcarbonate can protect the gastrointestinal mucosa from acidosis and astringency, and can achieve antidiarrheal effects by reducing intestinal irritation, preventing excessive dehydration and water-salt metabolism disorders.

Drug Interactions

1. When used in combination with other aminoglycosides or used in sequence, it may increase the possibility of ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity and neuromuscular blocking effects. When used in combination with neuromuscular blockers, it may aggravate neuromuscular blocking effects. 2. When used in combination with capreomycin, cisplatin, ethacrynic acid, furosemide or vancomycin or used in sequence, it may increase the possibility of ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity. 3. When used in combination with cephalothin, it may increase nephrotoxicity. 4. When used in combination with polymyxins or used in sequence, it may increase nephrotoxicity and neuromuscular blocking effects. 5. Other nephrotoxic and ototoxic drugs should not be used in combination with this product or used in sequence to avoid aggravating nephrotoxicity or ototoxicity. 6. When used in combination with large doses of anti-pseudomonas penicillins (carbenicillin, ticarcillin, mezlocillin, azlocillin, piperacillin), gentamicin may be inactivated and should be used separately.
