Chenodeoxycholic acid capsules
Function and Efficacy
The main function of chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) is to reduce the saturation of cholesterol in bile. After taking CDCA for most patients (when CDCA accounts for 70% of bile salts in bile), lipids return to the micelle state and cholesterol is in an unsaturated state, thereby dissolving and falling off the cholesterol in the stones. Large doses of CDCA (10-15 mg/kg per day) can inhibit the synthesis of cholesterol and increase the secretion of bile in patients with cholelithiasis, but the secretion of bile salts and phospholipids remains unchanged. When the dose is large, the incidence of diarrhea is high and it is toxic to the liver.

Indication
It is used for cholesterol cholelithiasis and also has certain efficacy on bile pigment stones and mixed stones.
Usage and Dosage

Adverse Reactions
1The most common side effect is diarrhea (30% to 50%), which is characterized by cramps in the lower abdomen followed by watery stools. It is dose-related and disappears after the dose is reduced. Most patients can tolerate it if the dose is gradually increased. 2A small number of patients (30%) may have a transient, reversible increase in AST (SGOT). 3Some patients may experience skin itching, dizziness, nausea, and abdominal distension.
Precautions
Pregnant women, patients with enteritis or liver disease should not use it.

Cholestyramine (Cholestyramine), colestipol (Colestipol) and aluminum-containing antacids can bind to CDCA and reduce its absorption. They should not be used together.
