Hepatitis B immune globulin
Function and Efficacy
Hepatitis B immunoglobulin is selected from healthy blood donors. Its plasma contains high titers of hepatitis B surface antibodies. After a concentration process, it is finally made into high-titer hepatitis B immunoglobulin. Because of its high price, it is only considered for use in the following cases. 1. Blocking mother-to-child transmission: If the mother is a newborn who is double positive for HBsAg and HBsAg, a dose of hepatitis B immunoglobulin must be injected intramuscularly within 48 hours after birth (the earlier the better), and then another dose is injected one month later. Then, combined with the hepatitis B vaccine, the protection rate for infants can reach 70% to 90%. 2. Preventing hepatitis B virus infection under special circumstances: When hepatitis B susceptible people accidentally encounter the risk of hepatitis B virus infection in certain occasions, hepatitis B immunoglobulin can be used alone. For example, when doctors, nurses and test personnel are treating, caring for or taking blood for hepatitis B surface antigen carriers, their fingers are accidentally pierced by needles or cut by scalpels. The blood of patients with hepatitis B virus can enter the bodies of the above-mentioned personnel through skin wounds. In this case, the infected person should be given an injection of hepatitis B immunoglobulin immediately (within 12 hours) and repeated one month later to prevent infection.
