Ampicillin Probenecid Capsules
Function and Efficacy
Ampicillin sodium is the bactericidal component of this product. It acts on the active reproduction stage of bacteria and has a bactericidal effect by inhibiting the biosynthesis of cell wall mucopeptides. Probenecid is a benzoic acid derivative. It competes with ampicillin for the same active transporter in the renal tubules, inhibits the latter's excretion from the renal tubules, increases the blood concentration of ampicillin, and prolongs its half-life. This product is effective against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Positive bacteria include Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis (including resistant and some methicillin-resistant strains), pneumococcus, Streptococcus faecalis and other streptococci; negative bacteria include Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Branhamella, Escherichia, Klebsiella, Proteus mirabilis, etc.; anaerobic bacteria include Bacillus fragilis.
