Erythromycin Tablets
Function and Efficacy
This product belongs to the macrolide antibiotics. It has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus (except methicillin-resistant strains), all groups of streptococci and Gram-positive bacilli. Neisseria, Haemophilus influenzae, Bordetella pertussis, etc. are also sensitive to this product. This product also has antibacterial effects on various anaerobic bacteria except Bacteroides fragilis and Fusobacterium. It also has inhibitory effects on Legionella, Campylobacter fetus, some spirochetes, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Rickettsia and Chlamydia. This product is an antibacterial agent, but it also has a bactericidal effect on some bacteria at high concentrations. It can penetrate the bacterial cell membrane and reversibly bind to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome near the donor site ("P" site), blocking the transfer RNA (t-RNA) from binding to the "P" site, and also blocking the self-acceptor site ("A" site) of the polypeptide chain.
Ingredients

Patients may experience fatigue, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever, abnormal liver function, and occasionally jaundice. 3 When used in large doses (≥4g/day), especially in patients with liver or kidney diseases or elderly patients, hearing loss may occur, which is mainly related to the high blood drug concentration (12mg/L). Most of them can be recovered after drug discontinuation. 4 Allergic reactions are manifested as drug fever, rash, eosinophilia, etc., with an incidence of about 0.5% to 1%. 5 Others, occasionally arrhythmia, oral or vaginal nausea
Precautions
Patients who are allergic to this product or other macrolide drugs are contraindicated.
Drug Interactions
1. Erythromycin can inhibit the metabolism of carbamazepine, leading to an increase in the latter's blood concentration and toxic reactions. 2. Erythromycin has an antagonistic effect on chloramphenicol and lincomycin, so their co-use is not recommended. 3. Patients who have been taking warfarin for a long time may experience a prolonged prothrombin time when using erythromycin, thereby increasing the risk of bleeding. Elderly patients should pay special attention. When the two must be used together, the dose of warfarin should be appropriately adjusted, and the prothrombin time should be closely monitored. 4. Antibacterial agents can interfere with the bactericidal efficacy of penicillin. Therefore, when a rapid bactericidal effect is required, such as in the treatment of meningitis, the two should not be used together. 5. Except for dihydroxypropylphylline, erythromycin and xanthines
