Product Detail

Colorless rhombic crystals. Insoluble in water, soluble in ether and hot ethanol.

Mainly used for synthetic polyester fiber, resin, film, polyester paint and engineering plastics.

Dimethyl terephthalate is mainly used to make polyester resins, which in turn make films and fibers, as well as high-strength polyester insulating paints. Polyester film is mainly used as electrical insulation material and film production (such as film, X-ray, photographic film, Chemicalbook, audio tape, video tape, electronic computer tape, etc.). The most common use of polyester resins is in the manufacture of fibers, used in fabrics, fishing nets, carpets, tyre cord and so on. It can also be used to produce plasticizer dioctyl terephthalate.

DIMETHYL TEREPHTHALATE is an ester. Esters react with acids to liberate heat along with alcohols and acids. Strong oxidizing acids may cause a vigorous reaction that is sufficiently exothermic to ignite the reaction products. Heat is also generated by the interaction of esters with caustic solutions. Flammable hydrogen is generated by mixing esters with alkali metals and hydrides. Can generate electrostatic charges. [Handling Chemicals Safely 1980. p. 250]. This compound is sensitive to heat. The molten material reacts with water due to the temperature. This compound is incompatible with strong oxidizers, strong acids and strong bases.
