      Sodium formate

Sodium formate; sodium formate; Formic acid sodium salt (also known as sodium formate, crystal contains two crystalline water, so it is also known as sodium dihydrate, sodium dihydrate, sodium dihydrate formate (Sodiumformatehydrate). Sodium formate is one of the simplest organic carboxylate salts, white crystals or powder, slightly formic acid odor. Slightly deliquant and hygroscopic. Soluble in about 1.3 parts of water and glycerol, slightly soluble in ethanol, octanol, insoluble in ether. Its aqueous solution is basic. Sodium formate, when heated, breaks down into hydrogen and sodium oxalate, which then forms sodium carbonate. Sodium formate is mainly used in the production of insurance powder, oxalic acid and formic acid. In the leather industry, it is used as a camouflage acid in chrome tanning process, as a catalyst and stabilizing synthetic agent, and as a reducing agent in printing and dyeing industry. Sodium formate is not harmful to humans and can irritate the eyes, respiratory system and skin. The molecular formula is CHO2Na and the chemical formula is HCOONa, HCOONa·2H2O.
