1. A colorless crystalline solid with a spicy taste.
2. It is a salt compound of acetic acid and potassium ions.

Purpose:
It is widely used in chemical laboratory and industrial production.
1, chemical laboratory: Potassium acetate can be used as a chemical reagent, such as for acid-base neutralization reactions, esterification and acylation reactions.
2, preservative: potassium acetate can be used as a wood preservative, can extend the service life of wood.

Preparation:
1, acetic acid and potassium hydroxide reaction: acetic acid solution and potassium hydroxide solution mixed, at the appropriate temperature reaction to produce potassium acetate. The reaction equation is CH3COOH + KOH → CH3COOK + H2O.
2, acetic acid and potassium oxide reaction: acetic acid and potassium oxide solid mixed and heated reaction, can also get potassium acetate. The reaction equation is 2CH3COOH + K2O → 2CH3COOK + H2O.

Handling and Storage

Precautions for safe handling

NO open flames. Handling in a well ventilated place. Wear suitable protective clothing. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid formation of dust and aerosols. Use non-sparking tools. Prevent fire caused by electrostatic discharge steam.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Dry. Well closed. Separated from food and feedstuffs and strong oxidants. Store in an area without drain or sewer access.

Inhalation: Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Get medical advice/attention if you feel unwell

Skin contact: Remove/Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. If skin irritation or rash occurs: Get medical advice/attention.

Eye contact :Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present

Ingestion ： Get medical advice/attention if you feel unwell. Rinse mouth. Protection of first-aiders: A rescuer should wear personal protective equipment, such as rubber gloves and air tight goggles

DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

Recycle to process, if possible. Consult your local regional authorities. You may be able to dissolve or mix material with a combustible solvent and burn in a chemical incinerator equipped with an afterburner and scrubber system. Observe all federal, state and local regulations when disposing of the substance.
