9-thioxanthone usually exists in the form of slightly yellow crystalline powder with a faint luster. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and acetone. Its boiling point is as high as 371°C (at normal pressure) and has high thermal stability. In addition, it has a certain lipophilicity.
