    1. Description :

    Colorless toxic gas. Relative density 1.0869 (air 1 1). Melting point (118.656kPa) -80.8 ℃, boiling point -84 ℃, refractive index 1.00051. Flash point -17.78 ℃. Spontaneous combustion point 305℃. Explosion limit in air 2.396-72.3% (volume). Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, benzene, acetone. Active nature, can occur addition reaction and polymerization reaction, combustion in oxygen can occur high temperature (3500℃) and strong light.

    Acetylene, is an organic compound, chemical formula C2H2, commonly known as wind coal or calcium carbide gas, is one of the smallest alkyne compounds, at room temperature and pressure is a colorless gas, slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, acetone, chloroform, benzene, mixed in ether, is one of the important raw materials of organic synthesis, but also synthetic rubber, synthetic fiber and plastic monomer, can also be used for oxyacetylene welding.

    Acetylene (chemical formula HC≡CH or C2H2), commonly known as acetylene gas or wind coal (" wind "refers to compressed oxygen," coal "refers to acetylene), is the simplest alkyne, pure acetylene is colorless and odorless gas at room temperature and pressure, but industrial acetylene has a pungent (smelly) smell due to the hydrogen sulfide and phosphine. [4]

    Acetylene is slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in acetone,N, N-dimethylformamide, chloroform, benzene and other organic solvents, is widely used in organic synthesis of important raw materials, synthetic rubber, synthetic fiber and plastic monomer.

    The chemical properties of acetylene are more active, can occur neutralization reaction, REDOX reaction, electrophilic addition and nucleophilic addition reactions, because acetylene in oxygen combustion release strong heat and strong light, so it is also used for oxy-acetylene welding night lighting. At present, the industrial synthesis of acetylene mainly includes calcium carbide hydrolysis and natural gas cracking.

    1. Application :

    Acetylene is used as a raw material for the production of electronically conducting plastics, such as polyacetylene.

    Acetylene is used with high purity synthetic air or nitrous oxide as a fuel for the flame in atomic absorption flame spectroscopy. This is used in water, soil, food and biological research laboratories where sensitivity and accuracy of results are important.

    Acetylene is most commonly used in combination with oxygen for cutting or   welding materials such as mild steel, where the standard industrial grade is sufficient. Acetylene with low phosphine levels is required for lead brazing or welding.

    Acetylene is used in organic synthesis (laboratory work) as well as in chemical synthesis.

    Acetylene is used as carbon source in the production of molecular manufacturing like fullerenes; well known examples are bucky balls or carbon nanotubes.

    Acetylene is used in th cultivation of plant; it improves the forming of new flowers.

    Acetylene is used as a component in calibration gases for the gas, oil as well as chemical industry.

    Acetylene is still used in some lighthouses as light fuel source.

    Acetylene is one of the components in lung testing gases.
