Colorless semi-transparent crystals or white crystalline powder, odorless. It is readily soluble in water (6.3g / 100ml) and insoluble in ethanol. It is hygroscopic, and the pH value of a 1% aqueous solution is approximately 9.0.

Purpose:

It is used in the food industry as a flavoring agent, leavening agent, buffer, integrator, moisture retainer and a mild alkaline agent for dairy products. It can enhance the complexation of metal ions, pH value and increase ionic strength in food. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate has a strong ability to trap metal ions. As an adhesive and water-retaining dispersant, it can be combined with other condensed phosphates to improve the adhesion and water-holding capacity of food. In China, GMP regulations are in place for all types of food. When used as a potassium source (calculated as potassium, g / 100g), infant formula powder should not exceed 100g. Formula food for older infants: 400-1500 Infants and young children should be supplemented with 200 to 1000 grains of cereal.

Preparation:

Neutralization method Solid caustic potash is prepared into a 30% aqueous solution. After clarification and filtration to remove impurities, it is measured and added to a corrosion-resistant reaction tank. Under stirring, an appropriate amount of 50% phosphoric acid solution is slowly added. The neutralization reaction is carried out at 90-100℃. The endpoint of the reaction is controlled at pH 8.5-9.0(when phenolphthalein is used as an indicator and just turns red). Heat to 120-124℃ for concentration. After the solution concentration reaches the required range, filter out the insoluble substances. The clear filtrate was cooled to below 20℃ to precipitate crystals, then separated by centrifugation and slightly air-dried to obtain the finished product of dipotassium hydrogen phosphate. The mother liquor is filtered and then returned to the process for use.

Precautions for safe handling

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Dry. Well closed. Separated from food and feedstuffs and strong oxidants. Store in an area without drain or sewer access.

Inhalation: Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. Get medical advice/attention if you feel unwell

Skin contact: Remove/Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. If skin irritation or rash occurs: Get medical advice/attention.

Eye contact :Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present

Ingestion ： Get medical advice/attention if you feel unwell. Rinse mouth. Protection of first-aiders: A rescuer should wear personal protective equipment, such as rubber gloves and air tight goggles

DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

Recycle to process, if possible. Consult your local regional authorities. You may be able to dissolve or mix material with a combustible solvent and burn in a chemical incinerator equipped with an afterburner and scrubber system. Observe all federal, state and local regulations when disposing of the substance.
