The bromide ion (Br⁻) competes with chloride ions (Cl⁻) at neuronal GABAₐ receptors, enhancing GABAergic inhibition and reducing neuronal excitability. This mechanism is similar to other bromide salts (e.g., potassium bromide) used to manage seizures in animals.

Loading dose: 20–40 mg/kg/day divided into 2–3 doses.
