Applications

Nefiracetam is used to treat cerebrovascular disease. It can enhance cognitive ability and prevent learning and memory damage by acting on the cerebral cortex. It does not have the characteristics of muscarinic receptor agonists and antagonists, nor does it inhibit the activity of acetylcholinesterase. Therefore, its anti forgetting and memory enhancing effects occur by increasing the release of acetylcholine from the cerebral cortex.

Mechanism of action

Neurotransmitter modulation: Enhances acetylcholine (ACh) function by acting on nicotinic receptors. It also interacts with GABA receptors to help balance neurotransmitter activity.

Calcium channels: Activates both L-type and N-type voltage-gated calcium channels.

Glutamate system: Potentiates glutamate-dependent signaling pathways.
