It has various uses, including neutralization of acid; the manufacture of paper, textiles, plastics, corrosives, dyestuffs, paint, paint remover, and soap; refining of petroleum; electroplating; metal cleaning; laundering; and dish washing. A burgeoning use has been in the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine.
