1. Description

L-Carnitine is a B-complex vitamin with a structure similar to that of amino acids, which is why some classify it as an amino acid. Its primary function is to assist in the transport of long-chain fatty acids to provide energy. This helps prevent fat accumulation in the heart, liver, and skeletal muscles. Synthetically produced carnitine exists in three forms: L-carnitine, D-carnitine, and racemic carnitine, with L-carnitine being the most effective. L-carnitine is a compound with multiple physiological functions. Oral administration of L-carnitine and acetyl-L-carnitine to patients with oligoasthenozoospermia can increase the total number of forward-moving sperm and the total number of motile sperm, thereby improving clinical pregnancy rates in female partners, and is both safe and effective. Clinical studies both domestically and internationally indicate that carnitine therapy for male infertility represents a recent breakthrough in the field of pharmacological treatment for male infertility. 2. Application

(1) Research Applications: Used as an analytical standard or tool compound in studies of mitochondrial function, fatty acid metabolism, oxidative stress, and cellular energy regulation mechanisms. For example, it is used to investigate its regulatory effects on tissue fatty acids in diet-induced obese rat models.

(2) Nutritional Supplements and Food Additives: Widely used as an ingredient in functional foods and nutritional supplements, added to sports nutrition products, energy drinks, and infant formula to support energy metabolism and athletic performance.
