  Tirzepatide is a novel dual receptor agonist of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP, also known as gastric inhibitory polypeptide), administered once weekly.It has functions such as inhibiting the secretion of gastric acid and pepsin, stimulating insulin release, and inhibiting gastric motility and emptying, which can complement the effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists.Once-weekly injectable Sema, a selective GLP-1 receptor agonist, is approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes at doses up to 1 mg.   Another large study recruited 2,539 adults with at least one obesity-related complication (excluding diabetes), with a body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m² or ≥27 kg/m².
