It selectively accumulates in the inner mitochondrial membrane at concentrations 1,000–5,000 times higher than cytoplasm, specifically binding cardiolipin to repair impaired mitochondrial structure and energy metabolism. 2. Core Mechanism of Action

SS-31 freely crosses cell membranes, blood-brain barrier and concentrates on inner mitochondrial membrane, exerting multi-layer mitochondrial protective effects via high-affinity binding to cardiolipin:

Stabilize cardiolipin molecular structure, inhibit cytochrome c peroxidase activity, block cardiolipin peroxidation triggered by oxidative stress;

Maintain intact mitochondrial cristae architecture, promote assembly of electron transport chain supercomplexes, reduce electron leakage and cut off mitochondrial ROS generation at the source;

Prevent excessive opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP), suppress release of pro-apoptotic cytochrome c and reduce cell apoptosis induced by ischemia, hypoxia and toxic stimulation;

Optimize oxidative phosphorylation efficiency, significantly elevate intracellular ATP synthesis capacity in damaged mitochondria;

The Dmt residue directly scavenges superoxide anion, hydrogen peroxide and peroxynitrite radicals to relieve broad-spectrum intracellular oxidative damage;

Works normally on depolarized dysfunctional mitochondria (unlike TPP-based mitochondrial targeted agents), exerting protective effects under pathological low membrane potential states.
