Product Description:

Methane (CH4) is a colorless, odorless, flammable gas available at purities from 99.9% to 99.9999% (6N). It is the simplest hydrocarbon and the primary component of natural gas, biogas, and coal mine gas.

Key Applications:

Primary standard gas and calibration gas for gas chromatographs in petrochemical plants, environmental monitoring, and natural gas analysis. Also used as a calibration gas for combustible gas detectors and LEL sensors. Serves as a chemical feedstock for hydrogen production via steam methane reforming, methanol, ammonia, acetylene, carbon black, and chlorinated hydrocarbons (chloromethane, dichloromethane, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride). Acts as a high calorific value fuel for industrial burners, boilers, and power generation. Used as a carbon source for CVD diamond film and carbon nanotube synthesis in research applications. Also serves as a low temperature refrigerant (R50) in cascade refrigeration systems.

Under prolonged exposure to fire or intense heat the containers may rupture violently and rocket. It is used in making other chemicals and as a constituent of the fuel, natural gas.
