Sodium Metabisulfite, also known as Sodium Pyrosulphite, molecular formula Na₂S₂O₅, CAS 7681-57-4, is a widely used inorganic reducing chemical supplied in two forms: white fine powder and white crystal particles with industrial purity ≥98%. It is manufactured by sulfur dioxide absorption and crystallization purification technology, strictly controlling impurities such as iron, water insoluble matter and heavy metals to maintain stable reducing performance for various industrial scenarios.

The powder type is fine and uniform with good solubility, dissolving rapidly in water to produce sulfurous acid solution with strong reducing and decolorizing capacity. The crystal granule type features low dust, anti-caking property and slow dissolution rate, which is convenient for long-term dosing in ore separation and leather production. Both forms are pure white without yellow or gray impurities under qualified production standards; abnormal discoloration indicates oxidation failure caused by long exposure to air.

This product serves as a core auxiliary reagent in wastewater and water treatment industry. It can remove residual chlorine, reduce heavy metal ions and eliminate chroma of industrial wastewater, effectively lowering COD value to meet discharge standards. In textile printing and dyeing field, it acts as high-efficiency bleaching agent and deoxidizer to prevent fabric yellowing and improve color uniformity of dyed products. For mineral processing, it works as selective reducing flotation agent to separate metallic ores. It is also extensively applied in leather depilation, photographic chemical raw materials, paper pulp bleaching and synthetic organic intermediates.

Sodium metabisulfite is prone to absorb moisture and release sulfur dioxide when contacting humid air. Industrial Wastewater & Water Treatment

As a mainstream dechlorinating agent, reducing agent and decolorizer in water treatment industry, sodium metabisulfite can eliminate residual free chlorine after water disinfection, reduce heavy metal ions like chromium, copper and nickel into precipitable low-valence states, remove organic chroma and effectively lower COD index of printing, electroplating, dyeing industrial wastewater, helping factories meet local sewage discharge standards.
Textile Printing & Dyeing Industry

Used as bleaching auxiliary and oxygen scavenger for cotton, linen and viscose fabrics. It eliminates excess oxidant after hydrogen peroxide bleaching, prevents fabric fiber yellowing, improves dye uptake uniformity, and serves as color protecting agent for reactive dyes.
Mineral Ore Flotation
