Product Detail

Sodium tetraborate decahydrate (CAS 1303-96-4), commonly known as borax decahydrate, is an inorganic compound with the molecular formula Na₂B₄O₇·10H₂O and a molecular weight of 381.37 g/mol. It appears as white crystalline powder or colorless hard crystals, odorless, with a density of approximately 1.73 g/cm³ and a melting point around 75°C . The product is freely soluble in water (approximately 60 g/L at 20°C), glycerin, and insoluble in ethanol. Its aqueous solution is mildly alkaline, with a pH of approximately 9.0–9.5 .

Borax decahydrate is widely used as a flux in metallurgy and welding, a buffering agent in chemical formulations, a raw material in glass and ceramic manufacturing, a flame retardant, a corrosion inhibitor, and an emulsifier in paraffin systems . It is chemically stable under normal storage conditions but slowly loses water of crystallization in warm, dry atmospheres. Exposure to humid conditions may cause recrystallization and caking; storage should avoid wide temperature and humidity fluctuations and ensure packaging remains intact .

Standard packaging is 25 kg or 50 kg net per bag, with 1.2 ton jumbo bags available. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area with containers kept tightly closed and protected from moisture. This product is not intended for food, feed, or pharmaceutical applications unless a specific grade is confirmed.
