Product Detail

Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC), CAS No. 9004-32-4, is an anionic water-soluble cellulose ether derived from natural cellulose through carboxymethylation. It is a white to yellowish, odorless, tasteless and non-toxic powder that dissolves in cold or hot water to form clear, viscous, stable solutions. With a minimum purity of 99.5% on a dry basis and a degree of substitution of 0.65–1.00, our CMC is available in low, medium and high viscosity grades to meet the requirements of a wide range of industries.

Main Applications

In the food industry, CMC acts as a thickener, stabilizer, suspending agent and water-holding agent in ice cream, yogurt, beverages, jam, bakery products, instant noodles and sauces, preventing ice crystal formation and improving texture and mouthfeel. In oil drilling, it is a key fluid-loss reducer and viscosifier in water-based mud systems. In detergents, CMC prevents soil redeposition and enhances cleaning performance. In papermaking and textiles, it is used for sizing, coating and printing thickening. CMC is also widely applied in toothpaste, ceramics, paint and wall putty, mining flotation, welding rods, leather, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, where its thickening, film-forming, binding and suspending properties are essential.

Assay (dry basis): ≥ 99.5%; Degree of Substitution: 0.65–1.00; Moisture: ≤ 8.0%; pH (1% solution): 6.5–8.5; Viscosity (1% solution, 25°C): low viscosity 20–100 mPa·s, medium 300–800 mPa·s, high 800–2000 mPa·s, per grade; Appearance: white or yellowish powder.

Packing & Storage

Standard packing is 25 kg kraft paper bags with PE inner liners. Jumbo bags of 500 kg and 1000 kg are available for bulk orders. Approximately 16–20 MT can be loaded per 20-foot container. Store in a dry, cool and well-ventilated warehouse, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep bags sealed when not in use. Shelf life: 24 months under proper storage.

CMC is a non-hazardous, environmentally friendly material. It is not classified as dangerous goods and ships as general cargo. Avoid dust inhalation during handling; use dust masks and gloves if needed. In case of eye contact, rinse with plenty of clean water. Complete COA, SDS and transport documents are provided with each shipment.
