1. Physical Properties
At room temperature, it is a colorless, transparent liquid that is very slightly soluble in water and completely miscible with most organic solvents, such as alcohols, ketones, ethers, and aromatic hydrocarbons.
2. Chemical Properties
(1) Reactive Groups: The molecule contains multiple reactive sites, including ethyl, ethoxy, and carbonyl groups, making it a commonly used reagent for carbonylation and alkylation reactions.
(2) Typical Reactions:
It undergoes ester exchange reactions with alcohols to form other types of carbonates;
It reacts with amines to form carbamate compounds;
It undergoes hydrolysis under basic conditions, ultimately decomposing into ethanol and carbonates;
When heated above 110°C, it rapidly decomposes upon contact with metallic sodium, producing carbon dioxide and sodium ethoxide.
(3) Stability: Chemically stable under normal conditions and non-corrosive to metals; however, prolonged contact with oxidizing agents, strong acids, and strong bases must be strictly avoided.
3. Major Applications
Lithium-ion battery industry (primary application): Serves as the core solvent in linear carbonate electrolytes, reducing the overall viscosity of the electrolyte, enhancing the battery’s low-temperature performance and ionic conductivity, and optimizing the uniformity of the SEI film; electronic-grade products require a moisture content below 20 ppm.
Organic Synthesis Intermediates: In the pharmaceutical sector, it is used to synthesize sedatives such as phenobarbital and as a co-solvent for erythromycin; in the pesticide sector, it is used to synthesize low-toxicity, high-efficiency pyrethroid insecticides and can also serve as an ethylation reagent for the preparation of various heterocyclic compounds.
Industrial and Environmental Solvents: It serves as an excellent solvent for nitrocellulose, natural and synthetic resins, and rubber, and can replace traditional toxic solvents in applications such as coatings, inks, and the cleaning of electronic PCB circuit boards.
Other Niche Applications: It is used as a sealing and fixing fluid in the instrumentation industry and as a raw material for fixing varnish in cathode coatings for vacuum tubes. It can also be used as a gasoline additive to increase octane ratings and reduce exhaust pollutant emissions.Core Characteristics:

Standard packaging includes 200 kg galvanized closed-top steel drums and 1,000 L IBC containers. For large volumes, bulk transport via tank containers is available. Storing and transporting the product in a sealed, light-protected environment effectively delays oxidation and discoloration.
