DescriptionBorneol (also known as Dragon's Breath, with the chemical name 2-caryophyllene and the molecular formula C₁₀H₁₈O, CAS number 507-70-0) is a type of monoterpenoid organic compound. It is classified into two types based on its origin and structure: natural borneol (right-handed dragon's breath) and synthetic borneol (left-handed dragon's breath). At room temperature, it is colorless or white semi-transparent brittle crystals, with volatility and a refreshing aroma. Its core characteristics include promoting penetration and inhibiting bacteria, enhancing fragrance and fixing fragrance, as well as having medicinal effects such as clearing heat and opening the orifices.Application fields: In the pharmaceutical field, it is used as a common raw material for traditional Chinese medicine, for example in An Gong Niu Huang Pill and other Chinese patent medicines, as well as in topical pain-relieving preparations. It can also be used as a skin penetration enhancer to improve the efficiency of drug transdermal absorption. In the cosmetics and food fields, it is used to formulate lavender and mint flavor essences, added to colognes, oral care products, and can also be used as a food flavoring agent in accordance with standards.Physical and chemical properties: The melting point range is 205-210℃. It is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and chloroform, and almost insoluble in water. It is prone to sublimation at room temperature, and when ignited, it produces thick smoke and a bright flame.
